International Telecommunications Synchronisation Forum (ITSF) Prague - 14th - 16th November 2006
Horsebridge Network Systems will be present at this year's International Telecommunications Synchronisation Forum (www.telecom-sync.com) in Prague from the 14th - 16th of November. Should you be attending the event representatives from Horsebridge would be delighted to meet with you on our stand and take the opportunity to share our ideas, “NGN” technology and experience in today's market.
The ITSF 2006 will look at the full range of synchronisation related topics from the basics through to future technology developments, with a strong focus on practical applications and product-driven papers.
With packet based technologies, encroaching on the traditional TDM core, edge and near edge network synchronisation is becoming a hot topic for Network Operators. New and legacy technologies are imposing demanding requirements on synchronisation delivery at the edge, not least upon the commercial model. With new concepts and technologies, constantly evolving Horsebridges view is to embrace all possible solutions.
Our market place is constantly evolving and to serve our customers we must understand their business drivers to be able to offer appropriate solutions. Our ethos is to save our clients operational expense and increase the quality of the services they are able to offer.
If on this occasion you are not available to attend the ITSF event to meet with us, we would be delighted to meet with you at an alternative date to suit your schedule in the near future.

Synchronisation for Next Generation Networks - 7th April 2006
Horsebridge in conjunction with Semtech presented the second in their 2006 series of technology workshops exploring the challenge of synchronisation delivery within packetised network infrastructures.
The workshop discussed the challenges faced by operators and equipment manufacturers alike providing an overview of the technology options available to deliver synchronisation in Next Generation Networks including GPS, Circuit Emulation, IEEE 1588 and proprietary solutions.
Commenting on the success of the event David O'Connor, Managing Director, Horsebridge enthused "The migration to packet technologies provides a real challenge to synchronisation delivery. We are helping to plan some of the leading Next
Generation Networks through consultancy and our planning tool Sync Architect. The workshop today proved an ideal forum to share and discuss our experience with some of the largest players in the Telecommunications market in the UK . Its not often an opportunity presents itself for open discussion in the same forum with the likes of Vodafone, 3, O2 and T-Mobile to mention attendees from the mobile operators alone."
The prize draw providing an opportunity for corporate hospitality at the 2006 British Touring Car Championship was won by an attendee from Network Rail.
Explosive growth of WiMAX earmarked, but licensed spectrum is the only business opportunity - 6th April 2006
A report released yesterday pins the global business opportunity of WiMAX at a projected $53 billion in mobile revenue by 2011, according to TelecomView. [Source: EE Times UK]
In a statement by Horsebridge Network Systems, managing director David O’Connor warns that while WiMAX clearly presents a huge business opportunity, its success will be predicated by the ability of service providers to deliver high quality of service to their customers. He also warns that in the UK, the current situation is such that only two providers own the licences to operate WiMAX. Despite rampant misunderstandings that other firms are serving WiMAX networks, the firms with exclusive rights to WiMAX have not yet launched their networks in the UK.
O’Connor explains: “In the UK today some firms are claiming to have WiMAX, but they’re not operating under the only spectrum which has been ratified for WiMAX – 3.5GHz. It’s possible to utilise WiMAX-style technology over other unlicensed spectrums, including bands typified by WiFi or radio such as 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. However, a true WiMAX network can only be run over 3.5GHz Spectrum and this has not yet been done in the UK.”
“Quality of service can quickly become an issue with using unlicensed spectrum, as interference can either reduce throughput or quality or service, or both. Faced with this situation some providers would focus on maintaining quality of service but then the speeds of transmission dip so low that users experience a serious network slowdown. When using the network for business critical communications, it could have severe implications on business continuity. Therefore our viewpoint is that the business opportunity presented by WiMAX is exclusive to the spectrums that have already been ratified.”
O’Connor concludes: “The five mobile operators that own 3G licences in the UK also have a sideband which may eventually be ratified for WiMAX. If that does occur, the operators still may not be motivated to sell off the sideband licences when they’re already struggling to increase their return on their 3G investments.”

AIRSPAN USES HORSEBRIDGE'S PRODUCTS ON WORLD'S LARGEST WiMAX METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK - 11th January 2006
Horsebridge's Next Generation GPS Synchronisation Receivers key to Mass Rollout of WiMAX TDD Technology
Horsebridge Network Systems has been selected by Airspan Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: AIRN) to provide Next Generation Sync™ technology for the AS.MAX product line which is being used by Yozan, for the world's first major deployment of a WiMAX Metropolitan Area Network. Yozan launched a commercial service on 25 December, 2005 that is delivering high speed IP connectivity, and supports video, voice and broadband data services.
The initial deployment in Tokyo will use 1,200 units of Horsebridge's Next Generation Sync products to improve the quality and reliability of the data throughput of transmitters and receivers across the entire network. This will improve network capacity and user service speeds, and maximise network throughput. Increasing data throughput ensures high-speed access to the network for potential users around the clock, for the widest range of data services.
Paul Senior, Vice President of Marketing and Product Management, Airspan Networks, said, “WiMAX networks issues can often stem from poor synchronisation — networks tend to be synchronised at the core, but not at the edge. As the industry experts in this space, Horsebridge were highly responsive to our needs by offering one of the first cost-effective carrier class solutions for enabling accurate data transmission across the entire metropolitan area. Through this partnership we will be able to ensure quality of service across the network while reducing the risk of any service interruptions to customers from interference.”
Horsebridge's products provide a cost effective solution for achieving total network synchronisation — from the core to the edge — enabling a consistent level of service and high quality data transmissions to be delivered across the network. Improving the city-wide synchronisation reduces the interference by adjacent networks, meaning that roaming users are no longer prone to data loss from interruptions of service.
“Today most WiMAX deployments around the world have been trials, or very small commercial rollouts - the deployment in Tokyo demonstrates the massive potential for this technology in the UK and on a worldwide basis,” said David O'Connor, managing director of Horsebridge Network Systems. “We are very pleased to be working with Airspan and Yozan on a project likely to shape the global uptake of WiMAX.”
Horsebridge's solution will ensure the accuracy of data transmission to and from Airspan's MicroMAX base station. Customers on the Yozan MetroZone will use a range of subscriber units, including Airspan's EasyST, a unique self-installable indoor WiMAX customer premises device. The EasyST provides WiMAX connectivity to the MicroMAX base station and Wi-Fi coverage inside the customers' homes via its integrated WiFi Access Point.
Through its team of expert technical designers and engineering consultants, Horsebridge was able to create a bespoke WiMAX solution for Airspan, tailored to address its specific business critical needs. The consultancy services reviewed each step of the planning, designing and implementation of the communication network system, ensuring consistency and quality of the network.
The Horsebridge Next Generation Sync product portfolio delivers synchronisation for 3G mobile networks, Wi-MAX and HSDPA networks, Mobile Network Radio backhaul links and Triple Play applications.
