Remote System Management is not a new technology however its importance is increasingly growing. Supporting remotely deployed equipment, traditionally undertaken by and organisations engineering and support teams is increasingly seen as an area of operational expense targeted for reduction.
The utilisation of remote management solutions can reduce the requirement for initial engineering fault diagnosis and identify actual engineering requirement, meaning that engineering time is targeted utilised efficiently when required for fault resolution.
Reduction in system downtime and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) of remotely deployed equipment increases system efficiency, maximising return on investment of the original system .capital expenditure.
Operational savings are gained through consolidation of engineering resources, with more concentrated central engineering support.
Vendor independent management solutions targeted at providing management capability at legacy equipment deployments have proven to reduce capital expenditure requirements for previously scheduled equipment upgrade to facilitate vendor specific proprietary management solutions.
Remote management solutions are increasingly reducing the return on investment of initial deployment and improving operational effectiveness and efficiency.
Mint Systems - Remote Craft Platform (RCP)
Remote Craft Platform has been designed to support the management of all equipment on a centralized Network Management System.
All networks have both legacy equipment and current equipment not designed for management through a centralized system. Much of this equipment was designed and supported by local network engineers on permanently manned sites.
Changes in both network management, and the requirement to drive down operational costs, has left many holes in the visibility, and control of many important network components.
Failure to identify network problems quickly leads to unplanned down time and poor network performance.
Currently, if an unmanaged piece of equipment fails, it is only guess work by the Network Management Centre (NMC) that may find the fault, and on most occasions an engineer will be deployed to site just to check.
This is very expensive, and it can take many hours to resolve a simple fault. In the worst case, the engineer may not have the required parts to rectify the fault, simply because he was unable to diagnose the nature of the fault before visiting the site. This in turn leads to an even longer unplanned outage and continued customer pain.
The skill set of the Field Engineer also needs to be very high, to understand all types of equipment.
The cost of fully skilled 24/7 field engineering team to cover a large geographical area is generally seen as excessive by senior management. In some cases the equipment might only need a power cycle to correct an internal processing problem. The deployment of an engineer to this type of fault is a complete overkill, and poor management
.
Features:
• Manage alarm handling on (one to thousands) network devices.
•
Relay Alarms back to central management system via SNMP (Netcool, Openview, etc.).
• Allow remote management on devices that could only have been previously managed locally (RS232).
• Allow real time alarm handling on equipment not previously managed.
• Allow extra management of systems/facilities not previously available.
• Allow total control and visibly throughout the whole network.
• Cut out wasted engineering callouts.
• Speeds up mean time to repair.
• Extend Life of Legacy equipment.
• Proven to save capital and operational expenditure
