Optical Networking - The Enabler of Next Generation Agile Optical Networks
The increased number of high capacity packet‑based services has pushed operators to deploy a WDM layer in their networks. Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer-based (ROADM) networks are becoming an essential element of next-generation networking. The next-generation WDM network requires more capacity, resilience and flexibility that incorporate user-friendly line switching and end to end route selection.
The use of multi-degree WSS ROADM , together with fully tunable lasers and advanced power equalization capabilities, introduce true flexibility to network design by providing any wavelength to any node ("any-to-any") connectivity in any ring or mesh topology, with no need to predefine traffic demands, as well as a virtually unlimited capability to add or reroute wavelengths.
With a range of architecture options enabled with teh use of an MSPP core enables it to cost-effectively address metro, regional and long-haul WDM challenges. A single product line is used in all deployments, providing complete end-to-end management over a multilayered WDM network with complete transparency. The MSPP also offers a rich set of Optical Transport Network (OTN) features, including SDH/Sonet signal transparency, performance monitoring, in-band management and EFEC capabilities all the way from the core down to the metro and access level. This enables operators to seamlessly manage their network wavelength services, end-to-end.
The use of integrated management platforms by using a common platform supporting mutiple service provision also offers the operator with teh benefit of reducing operating and maintenance costs.
