Bristol University Private Networking with Wireless Broadband
The Challange:

Bristol University approached Horsebridge with the requirement of a new Radwin Radio Link.  The University needed to replace a previous slower technology and so increase the bandwidth from 8mb to a possible 30mb.  The link needed to provide the Wills Hall with data and voice to run across the river Avon in Bristol supplying the 18th century building stronger and wider internet connection as well as free internal phone calls.  It was imperative that there were no ongoing rental costs and ROI was kept under a 2 year timescale.

Solution:
Horsebridge installed Radwin’s WinLink™ 1000 which met both the technical and commercial requirements of Bristol University.  The products are carrier-class, high capacity and extremely competitive point-to-point solutions. Packing legacy TDM and Ethernet services over 2.3 - 2.7 GHz and 4.9 -5.95 GHz spectrum bands, the WinLink™ 1000 products comply with worldwide standards and regulations including FCC and ETSI.

WinLink™ 1000 products provide high capacity connectivity of up to 48 Mbps, high range of up to 80km/50 mi, and rapid deployment of E1/T1s and Ethernet links at a fraction of the cost of leased lines, licensed mnicrowave or fiber.

WinLink™ 1000 efficiently addresses service providers and private networks requiring immediate deployment of solutions for applications such as cellular backhaul, broadband access and remote site connectivity. Available in multiple frequency bands and various configurations, all WinLink™ 1000 products are highly robust, simple to install and extremely competitive.

Results:
The Espy backhaul manager has been implemented across our radio access network the results have been impressive:

  • One off payment - Calculated ROI within 18 months
  • Installation was both fast and efficient
  • Upgrade facilities are easily accessible if needed for future projects
  • We can now provide the Wills Hall building with free internal phone calls and internet access to support the conference facilities there.
  • Martin Conway, Head of IT Infrastructure and Services at Britol University states “I would be very happy to work with Horsebridge again in the future and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the services.”
